1st Caythorpe and Duke’s Covert Beavers had great fun learning new skills last night as they rolled up their sleeves and spent the evening planting seeds and bedding plants.
Using compost from local gardens and the village hall’s own compost bin, the Beavers learnt about how compost forms, the benefits it brings to our environment, and how to use it in pots and on flower beds.
They then spent time planting a variety of seeds, and the bedding plants that had been kindly donated by Grantham’s B&Q store. We send a huge Scouting 'THANK YOU' to B&Q!!
They’ve also planted pumpkin seeds to take home and grow in a competition. As Hallowe’en approaches, we’ll see who has grown the largest pumpkin!
All this exciting outdoor activity has counted towards lots of different badges for the Beavers, including the Gardener activity badge and the Community Impact badge, as our Group works closely with Caythorpe Village Hall to help improve the local environment for the residents of Caythorpe and local villages.
We currently have spaces in our Beaver Colony for girls and boys ages between six and eight years old. If you’d like to find out more, please email 1stCaythorpe@granthamscouts.org.uk.
